Categories, sub-categories and modifiers
Sort the catalogue into categories (colour, image, order, sub-categories) and offer options on products (doneness, sauces, extras).
Before you start
- For 🧭 Manager
Categories#
They are managed in Products › Categories tab.
- Add: type the name (50 characters) then Add (or Enter). A colour is chosen automatically.
- Colour: tap the coloured dot (24 colours or a free colour). It colours the category's card and the products' tiles at the till.
- Image: tap the square to upload, or the library; the cross removes it.
- Rename: the pencil (Enter confirms, Esc cancels).
- Category order: drag the handle (computer); the order saves immediately.
- Product order within a category: the arrows icon (see products).
- Delete: an empty category goes at once; otherwise a window offers to delete the category and its products, or delete it keeping the products (with no category).
Sub-categories#
Turn on Sub-categories in Settings › Register (off by default; this setting is also open to managers in limited settings). Each category then gets a Parent category menu: up to 3 levels (for example Sushi → Maki → Maki Roll). Products stay on the last level: a category holding products cannot become a parent. At the till and in the waiter app, a strip shows the path; the kiosk and QR menu show the main categories.
Display at the till#
In Settings › Register, "Display" card: number of columns (categories from 2 to 8, 5 by default; products "Auto" or 2 to 8), card shape (Rectangular by default, Less rectangular, Square), images (everywhere, categories only, products only, text), button style (Classic or Waiter style).
Modifiers (options)#
The Modifiers page (all business types except salons) creates option groups: "Doneness", "Sauces", "Extras".
A group is defined by:
- its name;
- its type: Single choice or Multiple choice;
- Required: the cashier must choose before adding to the cart;
- its options, each with a surcharge in MAD (positive, negative, or "included" at zero).
Click a group to see its options; the bin deactivates it. A group does nothing until it is ticked on a product's record ("Modifier groups"). There is no limit to the number of choices in a multiple group.
At the till, the product opens a window with the groups, the "1 choice" / "Several" / "Required" tags and the surcharges; a required single-choice group preselects its first option. The same group serves on the kiosk and in the waiter app.
