When the internet drops

What keeps working at the till without a connection, what is suspended, and how everything syncs when it returns.

Before you start

  • For 💳 Cashier 🧭 Manager

QodPOS is designed so that counter sales keep going when the internet drops. The till records them on the device, then sends them by itself when the connection is back.

How the till signals it#

The till checks the connection every 15 seconds and goes offline after two failures. Then:

  • the wifi icon turns orange and crossed out, with the strip Offline · N sale(s) waiting and a See details link;
  • a red pill at the bottom of the screen says "Offline — sales continue locally";
  • product images are replaced by text.

What works#

  • Opening the till ("Offline mode — local session") and closing a session opened offline: closing then asks for the counted cash and shows the difference.
  • A counter sale paid straight away (cash, card on your terminal, split, Glovo): "Sale saved offline", with a temporary "OF-…" number and the buttons Print (browser), Print (direct), New sale.
  • The catalogue and categories come from the device's memory.
  • Creating a new customer: kept locally then linked by phone.

What is suspended#

  • Editing, cancelling, refunding an order: "unavailable offline".
  • Taking a settlement, selling on account, using loyalty points.
  • The X report, reprinting a Z, the PIN code check.
  • Closing a session opened online: the till asks to reconnect; offline sales stay recorded and will be counted.
  • The Drawer button is not queued.

When the internet is back#

Syncing starts by itself (or by tapping the N to sync pill), in this order: sessions opened offline, created customers, catalogue, sales (oldest first), sessions closed offline. Each sale keeps its number and is never recorded twice.

A sale refused by the server counts as a failure; after 3 tries, it becomes Failed (never deleted by itself). Open See details ("Offline synchronisation") to see each sale's detail, Retry failed ones or Delete those you no longer want (with confirmation).
